Running Facebook ads can produce fantastic results for your business, which is why so many businesses are using it, including yourself.
Although Facebook ads are generally easy to set-up, sometimes it can be tricky getting the results you want.
But the good news is that if you want your Facebook ads to start performing better, sometimes you just need to try simple optimization strategies!
Just improving your targeting, ad angle, ad design, or lead magnet can play a significant role in getting better results from your ads.
And to get a better idea of how you can determine which ad is performing best or which one isn’t converting, we recommend using the 3×3 Ad Formula!
The 3×3 Ad Formula
The 3X3 ad formula is a strategy using one campaign, then 3 different ad sets, each using a different targeting. From there, you use 3 different ads, which could be an image, carousel, or video.
Here is a visual to give you a better understanding of how the 3×3 ad formula works:
If you learn better through video, definitely check out our CEO’s explanation of how the 3×3 ad formula works by clicking here.
The 3×3 ad formula allows you to quickly test to see which ad or targeting performs best so you can scale your campaign from there.
And if none of the ads that you are running are getting the results you want, you can optimize using the 4 strategies below.
1) Change Your Ad Targeting
If you’re getting less than 1% click-through rate (CTR) with your ads, one indication may be that you’re not attracting the right audience.
Typically, you want to start with an interest targeting that is most relevant to your niche or offer.
You want to aim for a potential audience size that is between 700K to 1M. And you do not want to go over an audience size of 1.5M because that would be too broad.
When choosing your ad targeting, try to think of keywords, public figures, or brands that may be relevant. For instance, if you’re in the fitness niche, perhaps Jillian Michaels would be a good targeting to begin with.
If you need help with targeting ideas, consider using Facebook Audience Insights.
It provides you with information to learn more about the people you are targeting with your ad sets and allows you to find other audiences you might not have thought of.
And If you are a local business, we recommend running ads using location targeting as it’s the best strategy for reaching potential customers near you with Facebook.
2) Test Different Ad Angles
The ad angle or the positioning of your ad message can either drive a desirable action or drive prospects away. If you’re seeing low CTR, it may also indicate that your audience is not resonating with the ad message.
The ad angle is crucial as it also drives copywriting – how you communicate the message in your ad can create urgency and connect with your prospects.
And to help with copywriting for your ads, here are simple tricks to make your copywriting better:
- Include odd numbers and statistics in your copy to catch people’s attention
- Focus on the user’s objections and how your product or service overcomes their problems
- Open with a question to filter out people that wouldn’t benefit from your product or service
- Focus on the benefits of the product or service that you are selling
- Use emotional triggers in your ad copy to provoke people to click your ad
3) Use Different Ad Images Or Videos
Sometimes, when it comes to optimizing your ad, you might have to use or create a different image for your ad, or even try using a video for your ad.
Just remember to make sure that you are following best practices when it comes to using text on your Facebook ad images. Click here to check out Facebook’s official guide for using text in ad images.
It’s also important to note that sometimes, video ads can perform better than image ads.
In fact, according to a study done by Biteable, a video ad performed better than an image ad by getting 480% more clicks and driving more traffic and sales.
But that’s not to say that you shouldn’t do image ads as well, because video ads might not work well with your business, which is why you always need to be testing.
And you can easily test which image or video ads work best by using the 3×3 ad formula as suggested above.
4) Create A Better Lead Magnet
The final factor for optimizing your ad is creating a better lead magnet, especially if you are running Facebook Lead ads.
If you aren’t aware yet of what a lead magnet is, it’s a marketing tool that can be used to attract leads to give you their information in exchange for giving them something for free such as an eBook.
You want to make sure that the lead magnet you are using has a high-perceived value.
You can do this by searching Amazon eBooks to see what type of eBooks people are paying money for in your industry and have your eBook be about something similar.
Because if someone is willing to pay money for an eBook about a topic in your industry, then they are most likely also willing to give you their information in exchange for receiving your lead magnet for free.
If the lead magnet isn’t useful to them, they probably won’t go through the trouble of filling in the form on your Facebook Lead ad.
And if you didn’t know, running Facebook Lead ads is an effective way to easily gather leads for your online business.
It allows leads to immediately submit their information through your Facebook ad, so that you can follow-up with them to potentially get a sale.
Although Facebook Lead ads is a very effective way to gather leads, there is one problem, there is no automated way to collect your leads.
Instead, you have to manually export the leads yourself and import them into your ESP or CRM of choice, making it impossible to follow-up right away and determine if they qualify as a prospect.
But with LeadsTunnel, you don’t have to worry about any of that!
Automate Your Lead Generation
LeadsTunnel is software that ‘tunnels’ your new leads into your pre-existing CRM or ESP (Email Service Providers). It sends all the collected information from Facebook Lead ads into your provider.
This will allow you to respond to leads in real-time and send them an email as soon as their information is collected, which is great for following-up with leads.
So that you can focus more on optimizing your Facebook ads and less time on manually having to export your newly-acquired leads!
Once you have collected your leads with Facebook Lead ads, you can use LeadsTunnel to immediately follow-up and determine if they qualify as a prospect and have needs and wants that align with your products or services.
There are in-app emails and SMS features that give you the ability to communicate and store all their information in LeadsTunnel. And there is also the feature to create a lead form widget to gather leads from your website too.
But that’s not all, LeadsTunnel has a Lead Scoring system that categorizes your leads as cold, warm, or hot based on their level of commitment to your business and quality of the information they submitted.
This way, you can easily and quickly identify which leads are worth your time and which aren’t to effectively prioritize follow-ups.
